Hallo V-Fans, (and apologies for using english)
Automatikgetriebe defekt - My experience after 4 years with a Vito Kombi 113 ( soon to be replaced by a V220 Ambient)
I now think its just a software bug. I have now driven 100,000km in my Vito Kombi, its been all over Europe (160kph+) and many times up and down the swiss alps. During all this time despite having had the engine ECU unit replaced after only a few months and doing the cable modification, I still get the ocasional 'fail-safe' mode problem. DC suggested I would need a new gearbox 3 years ago, but its still going strong!! No faults are shown on the diagnostics computer even when the gearbox failed one time in the dealers car park!
Allways just switching off the engine waiting a moment and restarting clears the'fault'. It only happens a few time a year and has no pattern to it.I think DC are actually unable to isolate the 'fault' on this model of gearbox, and I see that they made a lot modifications to it on the facelift 1999 models. Has anyone the same problems with these newer gearboxes?
Also, all you VW fans who keep suggesting we buy Caravelles remember our engines do not suffer major mechanical failures like the 5 cylinder VW diesels do!… Volkswagen - the name says it all - Peoples Car. I will stay with my Benz, the 'first' car - all others are just poor copies ;-p
